On the bookings page, there's a simple question,
You might think this question should wait until the invoicing setup. We had some technical reasons for asking as soon as you do the product booking:
- Standard invoicing is almost always what you'll want to choose when you've booked a physical product. The booked amount should be invoiced fully (eventually) — TrueRev will periodically remind you about unscheduled amounts.
- Usage based invoicing might be more appropriate when you book a service. Utilities (such as electricity, gas, and water) commonly have different amounts each billing period. The booked amount could get fully invoiced by the end of the deal, but more typically there will be some adjustments. By indicating up-front that the booked product will have usage based invoicing, TrueRev prepares to have the booked value adjusted.
- Free product invoicing doesn't need to be manually selected — TrueRev will auto-select this if the booked value is zero. It's listed separately since TrueRev would otherwise consider a product with zero total to have been fully invoiced and not need to be included on any other invoices. Your customers will want to see the confirmation that they're getting a "free" product on an invoice, of course, so this flag allows for that.
